Anyone Up for Dinner in the Sky?!

I just saw the concept of Dinner in the Sky  as a part of Oddee’s post “10 Most Bizarre Restaurants“.  I had no idea they even had a concept like this out.  Apparently its available in many countries including Dubai!  I looked at it for a while and it seems a bit high so I’m not sure if I would be excited about something like that or have a heart attack on the way up.   I would sure as hell never look down which would kind of take away from the whole idea.  But I absolutely loved the creativity in it!

If I ever get around to going up, I’ll let you know.

Getting Ready for the Big 30!!

A little over one week to go and there will be no turning back.  I will officially be 30 years old although if you ever meet me in real life, I will never admit to being a day over 28 ;)   I must admit, I have been in a bit of a panic although I was quite cool about the idea in the beginning of the year and even wrote a whole post about my excitement of “Turning Thirty“.  I mean I don’t mind it happening but I’m not too thrilled about being only 10 years away from 40.

Anyway, here are my last words of advice as a 29 year old to all you twenty somethings reading this.

1.  If you are going to change something in your lifestyle (losing weight, smoking, bad habits), do it before you turn 30.  Actually do it before you are are 28 because it gets harder to change things as you get older.

2.  Have FUN!!!  Most of us don’t realize that the early twenties are truly the only time in your life that you literally don’t have 10% of the responsibilities you will have for the rest of your life.

3.  Everything will pass!!!  Stop having panic attacks over bad hair days, breakups that you are sure would have never worked or a zit.  Cuz you will look back on them and wish you didn’t waste so much time caring.

4.  Enjoy the beauty of being “Natural”.  Don’t bother yourself with creams and makeup in your twenties because you don’t need to.  You will look beautiful with or without.  You have the rest of your life to use those and they will be a necessity.

5.   Use a ton of moisturizer.  You will be happy you did later on.

6.   Keep in mind that everything you do to your body in your twenties will show eventually.   Trust me on this one. LOL.  All those damn doritos I thought I could lose in a week will NOT GO!

Ok i know i sound really old talking like this.  But maybe this is because 30 is literally just around the corner.  So just accept it.   Plus I really wish I applied all this when I was starting out in my twenties.

Until then, please bear with me.  All is well on my end.  Same Same!  Work, Home, Hanx, Shopping.  I have to run to a meeting now.  Just wanted to say hi.

Sunset Rose Wine by Ksara

Speaking of Zahle in the post before reminded me of my favorite wine of all time which is grown and produced there.  Anytime I am in Lebanon, I make it a point to order a glass of rose wine called Sunset by Ksara as it is available in almost every restaurant over there.  I personally favor it over all wines as it has a distinct light fruity taste and doesn’t give you a hangover the next day.  Actually it makes you feel quite happy rather than tipsy or tired.  I do recommend it for anyone who is looking for a good wine to try.

For the full experience, make a day of it by visiting the KSARA winery and take a tour of the premises and learn in detail the process of how their wines are made.

Zahle: The Beautiful Bride of the Bekaa Valley

This post is dedicated to Peter Pan – who is one of Zahle’s greatest fans

I’ve been to Zahle a few times and each time was an experience of its own.  Whether it be to visit the famous wineries of Ksara and Kefraya or to eat delicious Lebanese mezzas at the Bardouni Restaurants or to just discover why they call Zahle “The City of Wine & Poetry,” it’s definitly a must see when visiting Lebanon.  Zahle is around 1 hour away from Beirut by car.  For more information on this beautiful city, you can view this link.   I have reposted some of the intereresting excerpts from the article below.

———–

The Bride of the Beqaa
A red-roofed town set among the eastern foothills of Mount Sannine, Zahlé enjoys a prime location in the Beqaa valley. Snowcapped mountains tower above it in winter, while in summer its 945-meter elevation keeps the air light and dry.

The city center spreads along both banks of the Bardouni River, with the older section of town on the upper elevations of the west bank and the shopping district on the east bank.  At the northern end of town is the Bardouni river valley known as Wadi el-Aarayesh (Grape Vine Valley) – the site of Zahlé’s famous outdoor restaurants. Zahlé styles itself “The City of Wine and Poetry”, and with good reason. In this century alone some 50 poets and writers were born here and almost as many wines and araks have been produced in the area.

Zahlé’s Bardouni Restaurants
The Bardouni is a river that flows out of Mount Sannine and down through Zahlé. It is also a name synonymous with Lebanon’s famous mezze and the delights of outdoor dining. The Bardouni restaurant tradition began over a hundred years ago with a few simple riverside cafes. Today it is a virtual bazaar of tree-shaded eating places known as “casinos,” every one more inviting than the next. Not surprisingly, competition is fierce, so each establishment outdoes itself with fountains, pools, and cooling shade to tempt potential customers. Here you can enjoy the traditional Lebanese mezze as it is served nowhere else. To add to the sense of timelessness, delicious mountain bread is baked before your eyes and a man in baggy trousers and fez is on hand to pour Lebanese coffee. He can also provide diners with a hubble-bubble (water pipe).

Wine and Arak
Zahlé’s association with the grape is pervasive, for it lies at the heart of an area that has been making wine since early antiquity. At the city’s southern entrance the statue of a graceful female personifies wine and poetry, but you don’t have to look far to see evidence of the real thing. The hills north of town with names like Wadi Hadi, Harqat, Bir Ghazour and Tell Zeina are covered with the neat rows of vineyards that supply Zahle’s wine and arak industries. A tour of Zahlé’s Ksara winery is a good way to see how wine and arak are made. Of special interest here are the extensive underground caves built around a natural grotto known and enlarged by the Romans.

Local Celebrations
Each year between the 10th and 20th of September Zahlé mounts its week-long ” Festival of the Vine”, a celebration shared with the city’s ” Flower Festival”. In a carnival-like atmosphere “Miss Vine” is elected and cars are decorated with flowers representing national symbols.

Hula Hoop Fitness

Recently I was talking to a friend about different fitness techniques that are cardio but fun at the same time and the Hula Hoop came up.  I couldn’t believe that slipped my mind as it was one of my favorite pasttimes from childhood.  And I used to be so good at it.  So I searched this week for a hula hoop that I could use while home watching tv.  I also researched about the benefit and apparently its a great workout and tummy toner.

After all my excitement, I tried it like 4 times and that hula will not stay up!!! I’m not sure if I got the wrong size or maybe it just takes time to get the right swing but i’m gonna keep trying :)   If anything, it makes you laugh just watching yourself swinging around like a crazy person trying to keep that thing up.

The Egg McMuffin Detour

Once again I have fallen into the temptation of McDonalds.  That place has a magnetism especially with its convenience of location and easy drive thru window on Gulf Road.  Every month or so, I treat myself to an Egg McMuffin which is the  most delicious combination of bacon (or smoked ham), Grill cooked egg and cheddar cheese on an english muffin.   This has probably remained my favorite breakfast option since I was 10 years old.  Unfortunately, people that I introduce the egg mcmuffin to don’t seem to always see it as one of the best creations made, except for my sister.

I was feeling a bit guilty today for indulging so I checked up the nutritional value and I was pleased to find out that it’s only 300 calories and 12 grams of fat.  I thought it would be much more than that.  Either way, I will always keep it as an occasional treat rather than an everday option.
