Yesterday I was sitting at the bank waiting for my turn and this very elegantly dressed women walks in. She was decked out from head to toe. Perfect black dress with accessories and shoes and bag and impeccably manicured nails and groomed hair. Everyone just stopped and watched her walk through. She also had to wait so she came and sat beside me. As we were waiting she received a phone call and started yelling at the person on the other line telling them that “how dare she do that to me that bitch, I swear I will get her that daughter of a dog. Who does she f…… think she is talking to.” This conversation went on for atleast 5 minutes. She even used words that a man wouldn’t say when he is fuming. I was personally in shock. I mean if you are going to look like perfection, why ruin it with vulgarity. After that, her look didn’t matter cuz it was completely jaded by her words. I can imagine it as a perfect piece of fruit with a rotten inside.

Lesson: If you are going to take all that time to make yourself look like a piece of art. You should act like one too otherwise there is absolutely no point at all.

Turning Thirty

“If at age 20 you are not a Communist then you have no heart. If at age 30 you are not a Capitalist then you have no brains.” (George Bernard Shaw)

This is the year (2008) that I turn 30. Who ever thought that the last 5 years would roll by in 5 seconds. Sadly enough, I was in such a rush to achieve my goals and get where I wanted to be that I can hardly remember the good times or really get the chance to live my 20’s. The good news is that this year (29) I feel like I made up for all that lost time and strangely enough, I’m looking forward to my 30’s. Of course, if I thought about turning 30 a few years ago, I would have broken down crying claiming it would be the end of my life. But from where I’m standing now, it looks like it’s the beginning to a good decade. Here’s my reasoning.

1. I’m comfortable with myself. I can guarantee you that one of the most important items on a girl’s agenda during her twenties is her appearance (weight, style, looks…). The key to looking good is based on what other people think. But that is quickly changing. Without even realizing, you find yourself caring less about what others think and more about what makes you happy. And this in turn makes you more comfortable, confident and RELIEVED. Now I can eat without worrying about those few extra pounds, go out without looking like a supermodel and say no when I feel like it without suffering from a guilty conscience.

2. It’s my turn to live it up. BECAUSE I EARNED IT. Throughout my twenties, I was a self proclaimed communist. I hated people who spent excess money or boasted their wealth with the newest expensive products while others were starving around the world. I would work and work and work trying to make an extra buck only to save it for rainy days. I wouldn’t even put my car in valet. Nowadays, I am really enjoying living it up. If I want something, I get it. I only get the best because I’ve finally learned that cheaper only means temporary. More importantly, I’ve reached a stage where I make a good amount of money, have a decent savings and I trully feel like I’ve earned the right to spend on whatever the hell I want to, even if its just for comfort.

3. I’m enjoying every second. Looking back, I didn’t have many friends in the last 6 years. I was more focused on work and other responsibilites. I had no time for small talk. In the last year, I regained all my old contacts and made a wonderful new group of friends who I love hanging out with. I am creating new memories that I will actually remember and I’m loving every day of my life.

4. Horoscopes don’t mean a thing. I’m sure everyone has went through a phase where you are on the mailing list of about 5 horoscopes that lead you to believe that you know what’s gonna happen. And you find yourself living your life on every word and just waiting for what they say to pan out. You wait for that job to come through or for your ex to realize you’re the love of his life or for your luck to win you the lottery. Sadly, when they don’t come true… you feel like a tragedy has come upon you and you waste anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years depressing over it. After a while, you get so tired of the ups and downs and realize that as long you give it your all…what’s meant to be will happen whether you kill yourself over it or not.

5. Inner Peace. I have always tried to find articles and advice on achieving happiness. And have done everything from travel to spa to losing 10 kilos to make myself happy. Unfortunately, those only accounted for temporary happiness. I always wondered how my mother was always happy no matter what was going on in her life. And she kept telling me that I just have to be contented with my life and I will be too. But I never understood how to do that. Apparently, you don’t have to do anything. It’s all about growing up. It happens on its own without you feeling it. Of course, the ups and downs are still there but they are only over the important stuff. Basically its the result of points 1 to 5.

So all in all “I feel good”! God I hope this lasts 😉

For the man who has everything, $12,000 whiskey

Looking for a Christmas gift for someone with rich taste? You might want to consider a bottle of super-expensive Scotch whiskey.

Macallan, one of the world’s leading brands of whiskey, is selling a 55-year-old single malt in a Lalique crystal container in a limited edition for C$12,000 ($11,840). Only 420 will be sold worldwide.

“You very seldom encounter 55-year-old whiskies because the chances for the whiskey to continue to age beautifully, to continue to interact with the wood in such a way that it remains nice and positive and harmonious are rare as the whisky grows older,” said Marc Laverdiere of Macallan.

First released in 2006, the single malt was matured in Scotland for half a century in a sherry oak cask. Laverdiere said it takes three years by law to make whiskey but most varieties are matured for only 10 to 12 years.

“If you have an exceptional cast, the whiskey in it will mature gracefully over a long period of time,” he added.
The most expensive Scotch whiskey sold at auction was a 1926 bottle of Macallan Scotch that fetched $54,000. It was bottled in 1986 after spending 60 years in a wooden barrel. A private New York investor bought the bottle earlier this month.

At the same sale in New York an anonymous buyer paid $102,000 for what was described as “an instant Scotch library” containing 729 bottles from blended Scotches to single malts from distilleries in the Scottish Lowlands and Highlands.

Kenzoki

I am so waiting to get to Beirut so I can get some of the key products of the Kenzoki line. I bought two products for them last year and fell so in love with the smell and the claims (I’m such a consumer 😉 that I went and asked for testers for all of their products. Last month, it hit me that I have to have those products. Not just a few of them but ALL of them. I miss the smell and how nicely they work on my skin. And I must say that hands down they have the best written material I have ever read. Talk about “living the experience” through text. It targets each and every one of your senses and creates such a powerful call to action in my opinion. But that’s just me 🙂

I decided to pull out the text material for my favorites among products. Enjoy!

Crème qui fait belle
A velvet-soft feel that tactfully teases the skin. A quick glance in the mirror, no mistaking, the face beams, beautiful, tempting, moisturized like never before. It captures the light, it radiates, you are a star. Breathe in. Sensual power of a rice-scented fragrance. At the heart of the formula is rice plant water, rich in essential oils, trace elements and mineral salts. Plus silk extract and cotton oil,w
ith moisturizing* properties. And light reflectors. Finally, ruscus for rosy cheeks and a fresh complexion.

Very Sensual White Oil
The first pleasure is smell. Its mellow perfume, built around a fragrance of rice steam stimulates sensuality. A talc-tactile smell that encourages close contacts. Then comes touch. The advantage of a formula in complete osmosis with the skin: the rice plant water that distils its beneficial actions (essential oils, trace elements and mineral salts). Almond oil and vitamin E to soften the skin, myrrhextracts that have regenerating properties and cotton oil that helps moisturize*. All these constitute a unique mixture of active ingredients that immediately nourish the skin on application. As one might imagine, its whiteness invites one to a novel pleasure. A personal or unusual bilateral massage. Enjoy the soft, undulating caresses that gently follow every curve of the body. Heaven.

Crème de nuit blanche (twilight cream)
Just like after a long, peaceful night’s sleep, even if the night was short and eventful. Beforehand: a sensation so soft it will knock you off your feet, the cream melts into the skin, makes it soft, enticing, ready for cuddling. Then: during the night, the cream works unsuspectedly on your face. A whole myriad of power packed agents to replenish, moisturize*, rest and plump up your skin. Belle denuit, soothing and moisturizing*, da-zao, softening, kombucha, plumping and radiance-restoring effect, and beech bud extract, regenerative. All of these are boosted by rice plant water, extracted from the heart of the plant without resorting to chemicals. And that’s without the sensual power of the fragrance built around a rice steam note. In the morning: the face looks radiant, relaxed, with a content grin. For all skins that want to tantalize any time of day or night.

Today my adrenaline rush was completely cut with the news of today’s bombing in Lebanon. I am not in the mood to work at all anymore. At least not for today. So I’ve been catching up on my general knowledge today and I found some really interesting lists. Time is publishing the All Time 100 which includes the top 100 lists of movies, shows, books and more. Funny thing is… I can only vouch for like 5 of those entries. I am really behind. hehehe. There’s another resolution to add to the list 😉

The December Rush

I think everyone can agree that December is the most stressful month of the year. It’s the most fun and joyous but also can be the most tiring and depressing. So much excitement and expectations. Things to do and places to go. Preparations for the end of the year are being made for all areas of your life (work, love, social, physical, family). My checklist this year looks something like this:

  • Finish up end of the year reports

  • Buy gifts for Christmas

  • Visit the bank about 20 times 😉

  • Buy a new car

  • Travel to Lebanon

  • Arrange for New Years Plans

  • Visit my friends who I haven’t seen in so long

  • Go to a family Christmas Dinner

  • Smoke all I can and eat all I can before resolutions start. hehehe

I’m sure most people’s checklist resembles mine in some way or another, give or take a few points. It can be quite stressful, but the nice thing about the December rush is that usually you clear all things that were pending during the year and start new during January. It’s such a good feeling, even if it lasts for only about two weeks. New resolutions, New files at work, New promises, New cool stuff from Christmas.

I really don’t have much to say because I’m currently in the December rush and my mind is thinking at 500 miles per hour which is why you won’t be seeing much of me this month. But as a New Years Resolution, my blog is about number 3 on my list 😉

The IPhone

I finally got my hands on the Iphone yesterday. After hearing so much about it and seeing the rush of sales going on in the States, I thought I would never get the chance. But sure enough, my uncle brought it with him from the States. Unfortunately he had to break the code because it can’t be used outside of the states otherwise. I fumbled with it for about half an hour to see what its all about. Wow that phone has alot of applications. Itunes, Ipod, GPS, 17 games, and anything else you can imagine. But it can be quite hard to get used to in the beginning and its not very easy to press the buttons on the screen. Sometimes I would have to press the buttons more than once to get it to process, especially when trying to make a phone call. The thing that bothered me the most is that the battery runs out very quickly. But it’s still an all in one which is a good start. Time Magazine rated it the Best Invention of the Year and included its pros and cons for anyone interested in looking into it.

Beautiful New York

I woke up this morning missing New York. It was this time last year that I was getting ready to go. Sometimes you just need to get away so you make a spontaneous decision, pack your things and go. December is one of the best months to visit this beautiful city. The air is cool and crisp. The streets are full of decoration and shops preparing for the Christmas season. All of the shows and events are being advertised everywhere. Everyone on the streets is in a hurry and seems to know where they’re going.

I decided to search for a pic of New York today so I could place on my blog and I came across New York Daily Photo , a blog of a photographer who takes pics of all the sites & places in New York and talks about them. I found it an excellent source to get to see all sides of this beautiful city from everyday life to the good life.
